Wizards owner Pollin dies at 85

Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin has died. He was 85. His death was announced by his company, Washington Sports & Entertainment. He died Tuesday but no details were disclosed. Pollin, the NBA's longest-tenured owner, suffered from a rare brain disorder that impairs movement and balance. He had heart bypass surgery in 2005. Pollin tried to run his pro sports teams like a family business.

Court: NY can seize property for Nets arena

New York's top court says the state can use eminent domain to force homeowners and businesses to sell their properties for a massive development in Brooklyn that includes a new arena for the New Jersey Nets. In a 6-1 ruling Tuesday, the Court of Appeals says the Empire State Development Corp.'s finding that the area was blighted was enough to justify taking the land. A group of tenants and owners claim the seizure is unconstitutional. They say developer Bruce Ratner's proposed $4.

Shaquille O'Neal is back at practice and hopes to play in Cleveland's game at Detroit on Wednesday. O'Neal has missed five games after he tried to block a dunk by Miami's Michael Beasley on Nov. 12. O'Neal, who is calling his injury a strained rotator cuff, practiced on Monday. He says he tried to persuade the team to inject him with cortisone so he could play through the injury, but says the Cavaliers wouldn't do it. Cleveland has gone 4-1 without O'Neal in the lineup.
