This is a typical example of smart client applications (i.e. Silverlight apps), which runs a thin UI layer and have all the backend logic as part of services. You need to run code remotely in a specific machine, so a good choice is to expose that as a service. You need to expose...
Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? It looks like this one is now since it has appeared in the Tech Ed US session list (type "Acropolis" in the keyword box, and then hit the Filter button). Out of curiosity I searched the web and found that there is a reference to Acropolis from over a year ago! So much for the secrecy... :-) ...
Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
A Smart Client is an application that uses local resources, utilizes XML Web Services and can be deployed and updated from a centralized server. It can work both in the connected and disconnected modes.
Wei-Meng Lee wrote an excellent article on how to incorporate a webcam into a .NET 2.0 Windows Forms, oops, er... Smart Client app. I'm not particularly interested in the webcam part, but in it he shows you how to directly integrate a video device with a PictureBox control. He also covers a lot about the AVICap.dll API. Highly recommended....
Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? I don't even know who Billy Hollis is, but he should get a golden globe award for yet another gem! :-)1997 – Taking the advice of hallucinating industry analysts, Corel decides to rewrite all their applications, including WordPerfect, in Java. The end result is the first known word processor that is slower to use than a typewriter. http://dotnetmasters.com/HistoryOfCFamily.htm...
Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
Great Web Programming Reference: W3 Schools

Lately I’ve been working on one of those “legacy” applications you hear about sometimes, where you have to go backwards in time. In this case I’m way back in the last millenium, making some major fixes to an ASP Web site developed in the late 90s. It’s for a wonderful niche e-commerce site located here in Fairbanks, and the people are totally fun to work with. So that keeps me sane while I deal with antique technologies.

I’ve long forgotten some of the more arcane details of ASP development and VBScript, but have found a marvelous reference for Web technologies: W3 Schools. It has all kinds of tutorials and references for old and new technologies, and I’ve been living in the VBScript reference section. The site is free, supported by donations and discrete (read: not in-your-face) ads.

They have been a lifesaver the last few weeks.

I have no connection to them. I just want to share a great resource.

Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
Aspose.Grid is your total grid solution. Aspose.Grid comes packaged with two different GUI .NET components: one to support desktop applications and another to support web applications. Both versions are equally matched in order to make implementing in either platform a snap. Aspose.Grid provides the ability to import from and export to Excel spreadsheets. Doing so means that anyone familiar with Excel (even end-users) can design the look and feel of a grid. Aspose.Grid also offers an easy to use, feature-rich API which provides developers with complete control over the look, feel and behavior of their grid. And most importantly Aspose.Grid is priced to suit your budget. Nowhere else will you find a component as feature-rich, easy to use and as well priced as Aspose.Grid.
Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
