Print your data with RadGridView for WinForms in a few quick steps

We are sure you will agree that the highly demanded Printing support for RadGridView for WinForms was welcomed warmly by your end-users. We wanted to make sure that the Print Preview, Print Settings and Watermark dialogs will make the printing as easy as possible, but at the same time they will enable end-users to customize the printing output to the smallest detail. The result is that you can print a RadGridView with a call to the Print() method and the grid is send to the printer.

On the other hand if you want to customize the result by using code, you have a bunch of options available. On the higher level you can customize the RadPrintDocument which offers options for headers, footers, paper sizes, margins and the lot. But what we are here for is to dig deeper into the RadGridView print settings.

For this example, lets take a look at the Employees table from the Northwind database. The first thing to note is that you can print all types of view definitions and you do not have to worry about it, the RadGridView will handle it for you. To get going, we first have to decide how the RadGridView will be laid out on the printed sheet of paper. Let's set up our grid to be printed in the center without resizing it:

Now we can choose whether to print the header cells on each page to make it easier to understand the data that is printed:
this.radGridView1.PrintStyle.PrintHeaderOnEachPage = true;
Next, we can choose which rows to print:
this.radGridView1.PrintStyle.PrintHiddenRows = false; this.radGridView1.PrintStyle.PrintGrouping = true; this.radGridView1.PrintStyle.PrintSummaries = true;
Now we can go for the visual appeal of the printed grid. There are options available for setting the fonts and back colors for each cell type e.g. header cells, group cells, summary cells. There is also an option to enable the alternating row color for the data rows:

So far weve looked at properties that modify settings on a type level for all representatives of that type, rather than modifying individual instances. In order to access each individual cell, you can use the PrintCellFormatting and PrintCellPaint events. In our case lets say we want to set the cell back color which contains the Hire date for employees that have been in the company for 20 years or more:

Finally, let's put a small circle in the Date of birth cell which indicates whether the given employee birthday has passed or is up to come:

Hello everyone and welcome back to the XAMLflix! We hope you enjoyed the marathon that ended yesterday with DataBars. In todays episode we will take a look at the RadGridView for Silverlight and WPF. What is XAMLflix? In case you missed the previous episodes, it is Teleriks way of teaching you how to use both new and existing controls from Teleriks XAML suite. Each and every Thursday, we will provide a fresh batch of videos and sample projects highlighting a different control. Since our Silverlight and WPF share a common codebase and API, you only have to learn how to use these controls once! You can simply copy and paste the code between frameworks.

Say Hello to my Powerful Grid - RadGridView

The RadGridView control features sorting, grouping, editing, filtering, displaying of hierarchical data and asynchronous loading of data. A completely different level of interactivity and performance has been added on top of the basics. RadGridView can work with millions of records without compromising its performance and rich feature set. The RadGridView can be easily customized to fit perfectly into a variety of business applications.

Getting Started with RadGridView In this video, we will see how easy it is to get started using RadGridView, part of the Telerik RadControls for Silverlight & WPF suite. This video demonstrates using the design surface to add RadGridView to the page, hooking up data, and the sorting, grouping, filtering, and column operations available out-of-the-box.
RadGridView Exporting Grid Contents to Additional Formats We will learn how to export the contents of the RadGridView control to CSV, Excel, HTML or Text in this video.
RadGridView Data Paging with RadDataPager Need Data Paging? We have you covered with RadDataPager. You can easily page the data of your RadGridView with the Telerik RadDataPager control.
RadGridView Group Aggregates- When you are using programmatic grouping, you can add aggregate functions to the group rows. These functions allow you to display information about the data in the group such as first item, last item, count of items etc.
RadGridView Localization Localization is a big deal to our customers and Telerik recognizes that. In this video, we will learn how to use the built-in localization of RadGridView to localize any string resource found in the control.
RadGridView Validating Cells It is hard to write a LOB application that does not have any data validation. In this video, we will walk you through adding data validation for your grids cells. This allows you to take complete control of the data being entered.
RadGridView Copy and Paste Excel - In this video, we will learn how you can start taking advantage of the new copy and paste features build into RadGridView for Silverlight and WPF. With these features, you can seamlessly copy and paste rows and cells between RadGridView and Excel, allowing for a tighter integration between Excel and your XAML applications.
RadGridView Style and Template Selectors In this video, we will learn how you can start using the Style and Template selectors in RadGridView for Silverlight and WPF. With this feature, you can easily maintain multiple templates within RadGridView and show different ones based on underlying data for the row or cell.

What better way to spice up your Wednesday than by checking out some videos on one of the hot new controls in the RadControls for Silverlight and RadControls for WPF control suites? I certainly can't think of one! RadDataBars allow for a quick and easy display of data in a readable format, perfect for displaying KPIs or other business-centric data within your applications when what you need is an easy way to compare values or track progress over time.

For a quick recap, XAMLflix = Videos + Projects covering all of the controls in both the RadControls for Silverlight and RadControls for WPF control suites. We are revamping the entire video library with fresh new content based on the latest and greatest versions of our controls, complete with projects so you can grab the same code you see in the video and run with it.

RadDataBars - Making Data Display Easy

One of the best things about the RadDataBars is that they are as quick to learn as they are easy to use. Using any of the three types of DataBars, you can quickly add these controls to your projects for displaying key information in an easily readable format. Add the ability to customize the look and feel of the bars and you have a valuable tool to use for displaying KPIs or building dashboards that offer an immersive at-a-glance look at your important data.

Getting Started with RadDataBars - In this video we will take a look at the three versions of RadDataBars - DataBars, StackedDataBars, and Stacked100DataBars. We'll walk through creating all three versions of the DataBar as well as what properties set them apart, including how to get data displaying in each. (Download the project!)
Customizing DataBars - Once you've gotten comfortable with the three types of RadDataBars, the next step (obviously!) is to figure out how to customize these controls to better suit your business applications. See how you can control the axis display, add a data axis, control how the item label shows up in relation to the databar, and finally how you can control the colors being used for databars being drawn. Integrating with RadGridView - In the last video for today, we'll showcase how you can get up and running with the three types of RadDataBars integrated into RadGridView. RadControls for WinForms Q1`12 Release is Now Live!

We are happy to announce the immediate availability of the first major release for this year. Once again, driven by your demand to have successful Windows Forms applications, we proved that Windows Forms still has its place on the big .NET stage.

Here are the highlights for Q1 2012:

RadTimePicker (New Control)

This new control comes as a nice addition to your fill-in forms. It provides end-users with the option to quickly pick the time from a simplified drop-down in addition to picking a date from the RadDateTimePicker.

RadClock (New Control)

The latest release also brings a brand new RadClock control, which enables you to enhance your applications by providing a beautiful interface to end-users allowing them to easily view and compare times in multiple time zones.

Printing support for RadGridView

Q1 2012 brings printing support for RadGridView which allows the end-users to directly pass their grids’ content to a printer. It supports printing of all types of view definitions, but you can also print:

Grouped grid
Summaries
Hidden rows, hidden columns
Grid headers on each page

In order to make printing easy and customizable, we have added new user dialogs for viewing and customizing all printing settings:

Print settings – page headers and footers, paper size and many others
Watermarks
Print preview

Very similar dialogs are also used in RadScheduler.

We have also added printing support to RadScheduler enabling the end-users to print their calendars right away.

We’ve made the printing support feature-rich, and full of useful tweaks that will produce the right results even for the most pretentious end-users. Here are the printing features that RadScheduler supports:

Print styles: DailyStyle, WeeklyStyle, MonthlyStyle, DetailsStyle.
Area for handwritten notes in each style
Date header with a calendar showing the busy dates
Printing a single view on two pages
Page headers, page footers
Watermarks
Paper size settings
Print preview dialogs

Introducing Printing Support for GridView and Scheduler for WinForms

Have you ever wondered how to print your RadGridView and RadScheduler instances? I guess you have. Yet, this is one of the most voted features in our Public Issue Tracking System. The good news is that Q1 2011 is close and printing support for RadGridView and RadScheduler will be a part of it.

This support will allow the end-user to directly pass RadGridView and RadScheduler data to the printer. S\he does not need to export the data to other formats in advance (PDF, Excel, etc.) in order to to print it, nor should s/he scan his\her monitor :-)

As always, weve made the printing support feature-rich, full of useful tweaks that will produce the right results even for the most pretentious end-users. Common features between RadGridView and RadScheduler printing support are:

Page headers, page footers;
Watermarks;
Paper size settings;
Print preview dialogs:

Of course, each control has its own specifics, and so is the respective print support.

RadGridView supports printing of all types of view definitions. You can also print:

Grouped grid;
Summaries;
Hidden rows, hidden columns;
Print headers on each page.

RadScheduler on the other hand supports four different print styles, similar to the Outlook ones:DailyStyle, WeeklyStyle, MonthlyStyle, DetailsStyle. In all these modes you can add to your pages an area for handwritten notes or a date header with a small calendar that shows the busy days. You can also print a single view on two pages which will grant you more available space and allow you to organize the printouts in a folder or notebook.
